To further foster our learning network, members submit BMPs in 4 categories Environmental, Social, Governance, and Other, that they have implemented and from which they believe others might benefit.
Below are samples of BMPs submitted by our members:
| Company | Category | Summary |
| DM Petroleum | Environmental | DM Petroleum operates underground petroleum storage facilities in Louisiana and Texas. DM Petroleum successfully implemented a voluntary pollution prevention project in 2007 using existing floating roof tanks to reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) from crude oil storage well workover operations. VOC’s are a major source of air pollution. |
| Virginia Department of Environmental Quality | Environmental | The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality is seeking to become as paperless as possible. Actions taken include initiating a process to scan existing regulatory files for conversion to electronic storage only, removal of all fax machines and implementation of an electronic faxing system, and development of on-line applications for various agency programs. |
| West Virginia Department of Environmental Quality | Environmental | A diversified chemical company located in WV created a wildlife habitat that can be used for educational, recreational, and environmental activities. The wildlife habitat is a grassy wetland and wooded area sitting on 10 acres of the technology park. |
| Wildlife Habitat Council | Environmental | The Wildlife Habitat Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the amount of quality wildlife habitat on private and public lands. We created a Sustainable Office Stewards initiative to ensure that our internal operations are consistent with our ideal of sustainability in business. |
| DM Petroleum | Other | DM Petroleum Operations Company manages and operates four large petroleum storage facilities, a warehouse facility and a corporate office along the Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi Gulf Coast. Many of those facilities are remote to medical services. DM has successfully implemented a “Managed Care” system where clinicians are immediately available via telephone to provide a swift response of appropriate healthcare resources for minor injuries (not life threatening or requiring emergency response), and to assist in providing timely and appropriate care for those cases requiring transport to and use of a medical facility. This ensures appropriate use of medical facilities and proper clinical treatment for all injuries regardless of how minor, which results in the best possible outcome for employees and the employer. |
